A piano is an investment designed to be enjoyed for many years, so it is important to look after it. Here is a quick and easy guide on the best ways to clean your piano.
How to clean your piano at home
How to clean your piano keys
To clean your piano keyboard we advise using a cleaning spray with very low alcohol content.
Spray onto a cloth (not directly on the keys) and wipe the keyboard gently.
Alternatively, you can use a specialist piano key wipe, which are particularly helpful in educational settings where cleaning piano keys in between lessons is important.
Removing dust from your piano
Your piano should be dusted regularly using a dry cloth dedicated solely to cleaning your piano.
If your regular cleaning cloth is used to clean your piano then there is a risk that bits of dirt and debris from other cleaning activities might be caught in the cloth, potentially causing scratches on the piano's surface.
We recommend purchasing a microfibre or lambs wool cloth specifically for cleaning your piano.
Polishing your piano
To keep the piano cabinet in pristine condition, we recommend using a specialist piano polish together with your dedicated cloth.
We do not recommend using alcohol-based cleaning products to clean your piano cabinet as these can damage the surface.
We'd also advise you to avoid furniture creams, sprays, or waxes as these can all cause a build-up of waxy or silicon layers that can spoil the original surface.
Cleaning the piano interior
To clean the piano interior, we strongly advise booking a trained piano technician.
