How Coach House Support Education – Swansea University

By Sam Rusling - March 30, 2016

Here at Coach House Pianos, we know how important music is in education – regardless of the age of students, from teenagers to adults. Whether it’s to give the best possible instruments to students, or also enrich performances in the local area, getting a quality instrument that enhances everyone’s experience is essential.

That’s why we work closely with educational institutes of all types to help them find the best instruments to suit what they need for their students and the local community.

A fantastic example of this is our appearance last month at the Music Education Expo 2016. We were there with a fully kitted-out stand, complete with instruments to try and product ranges to see – as well as our expert team being on hand to provide advice and information.

As a result of our presence, we were awarded the title of ‘Best Large Stand’ of the show, which was contested on the quality of the stand, the products on offer and the friendliness and expertise of our staff.

This is truly testament to our dedication of working with those in education to provide the best possible instruments and the perfect buying experience to make sure that it’s a fantastic fit for what they need.

Swansea University - £32m Development & New Musical Great Hall

Swansea University and their brand new development are a prime example of how we work closely with educational institutions to ensure the best possible musical equipment for their students and the university as a whole.

The university invested more than £32m in a massive development project, which included the construction of a new Great Hall – a performance space which seats 700 people. To make the best use of this new space, the university wanted to fit it with the perfect piano for students and performers alike; their best option was a new Steinway.

We’ve worked closely with Swansea University throughout this development and their purchase of a new grand piano for the Great Hall. We know how important finding the right instrument is and therefore took the University’s Director of Music and a Concert Pianist (Simon Phillippo from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama) to visit the Steinway factory in Hamburg to see the instruments being made in person.

Dr Ian Rutt, the university’s Director of Music & Associate Professor, said of the visit: “It’s a wonderful pleasure and exciting experience to be here to choose a piano for the Great Hall at Swansea University.

“[I’d] like to thank Steinway for their hospitality and for allowing us to come here to make that selection personally, and to Coach House Pianos for facilitating all of this for us so that we have exactly the right instrument for Swansea and for the university.”

He added: “It’s been very difficult [...] but we think that we’ve found the right instrument for us; an instrument that will fill the hall with its sound and also be a subtle and refined instrument for music making of all kinds.

“[We] look forward to bringing this instrument back to Swansea and sharing its wonderful musical fruits with the community and with the university.”
